<p>
Gpg4kde describes a maintained combination of software components
for email and file encryption for GNU/Linux and similiar operating systems.
</p>

<p>
Both relevant cryptographic standards OpenPGP and S/MIME
are supported.

Notably Gpg4kde was found to be compatible to the German
<a href="https://www.bsi.bund.de/DE/Themen/DigitaleGesellschaft/EGovernment/VerwaltungsPKIVPKI/SPHINX/sphinx_node.html">Sphinx</a> specification
for a governmental PKI in the early 2000s.

<p>
All of Gpg4kde is licensed as Free Software.
(The main components are
<a href="https://www.gnupg.org">GnuPG</a> and
<a href="https://kontact.kde.org/components/kmail.html">KMail</a>.)

<h2>History</h2>

<p>
Gpg4kde version 3.0 was based on Kontact/KMail 3.5 'enterprise'.
It contained a few stability improvements which were later
merged with upstream at KDE.

<p>
The predecessor of Gpg4kde was
<a href="http://www.gnupg.org/aegypten2/index.html">&Auml;gypten-2</a>
which aimed at establishing all basic functionalities.
